Joe Cantalin, CFP®

Serving as the Practice Management Manager for Benjamin F. Edwards as well as the Branch Manager of our Clayton, Mo. branch office, allows me to put my experience to work to help our advisors and their teams improve their productivity and help my clients improve their financial outcomes.

Trust. Integrity. Mutual respect. These are the operating principles I rely on when I coach advisors or when I work to develop an investment approach that is designed to meet my clients’ financial goals and objectives.

My Background

Before joining Benjamin F. Edwards, I led a team at Wells Fargo Advisors dedicated to working with financial advisors to increase the profitability of their practices, successfully establish teams with other FAs as well as transition through succession plans.

Previously, at AG Edwards, I led our New FA Training program at a time when the firm trained 1,000+ new FAs annually and had the highest-first year production in firm history.

I have been in the financial services industry since 1982 and have personal experience across multiple firms and varying market conditions.

Outside of the office, I enjoy spending time with my family here in St. Louis or visiting them in Nashville or Dallas. My siblings and I are lucky enough to share a family “farm” in Lonedell, Mo. Spending time there taking care of the property and horses or fishing, riding ATVs or puttering around on the golf cart is a priority.

My Professional Approach

As a financial advisor, I firmly embrace the principle of putting my clients first and working with them in an atmosphere characterized by trust, integrity and mutual respect.

My client-first commitment to you begins by asking questions and listening to your responses about your current situation and plans for the future. Are you caring for a family? What are your income needs now and during retirement? Are you transitioning your wealth to the next generation?

As we discuss these issues, we’ll work side-by-side to evaluate your current financial picture and explore your investment time horizon and your tolerance for risk. Because financial situations can be complex, we can work with your attorney, accountant or other professionals to assist you in the pursuit of your goals. Each of these steps will help us develop a personalized investment program that will be designed to meet your current and projected needs.

My Background

Drawn by their client-centered approach to financial services, I joined Benjamin F. Edwards & Co. in 2016 as a financial advisor in our Clayton, MO, office. I began my financial services career in 1981, and I’m passionate about educating clients and helping them achieve their goals through proper planning and investment strategies.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Lisa, and our four children—Elizabeth, Chris, Caroline, and John. I also like to play golf, tennis, racquetball as well as snow and water ski. In addition, I love to travel, and I’m an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.

My Professional Approach

Focusing on the success of our Benjamin F. Edwards clients is what drives my professional approach each day. Clients’ success is a bigger picture than just finances. We need to understand what is important to each client to help them achieve their goals. Our firm’s mission statement leads us to provide personalized investment advice and world class service, and our team strives to achieve this with every client. To support clients’ success, we offer financial and retirement planning strategies, advisory services, and professional asset allocation guidance.

Experience and Background

I’ve been in the wealth management industry for over 40 years. I’ve gained tremendous experience at a few St. Louis based financial firms, namely A.G. Edwards where I served beginning in 1988. My focus during that time included Securities Research and an opportunity to work on the Executive floor interacting with so many wonderful areas of the firm. I then had the chance to join Benjamin F. Edwards in 2011 and have had the pleasure of being focused on client and advisor service. I have two wonderful daughters, and we all call St. Louis our home. I’m a lover of dogs, hiking, and US travel. I travel with friends and my daughters as often as I can. My favorite place has been the beautiful state of Oregon. Another passion I have is volunteering for Songs4Soldiers, an organization that provides direct assistance to veterans in need. I’m series 7, 63 and 66 registered and have my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Webster University.
