Three Things to Know & Watch

Three Things to Watch

  • Quite a bit to keep an eye on this week with Wednesday’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) report looming large. Core CPI is expected to tick slightly higher (2.5% versus last month’s 2.4%), and traders will keep a close eye on the report with yields climbing amid new inflation concerns. Overall CPI is expected to increase 3.6%, up from 3.4% in August.
  • Third-quarter earnings season kicks off in earnest this week with several large financials reporting, including Wells Fargo, Citigroup, Bank of America, Morgan Stanley and Blackrock. Taiwan Semiconductor also reports. Earnings have been one of the biggest stories and drivers of higher stocks year-to-date in 2026.
  • The Small Business Optimism Index report will be released on Tuesday. Consumer sentiment remains very negative while business optimism has been more resilient, despite higher energy prices and inflation.
