I’m sitting in our living room with the fireplace roaring as I write my 2023 Thanksgiving message. It seems like yesterday when I wrote last year’s message. Where did the time go?
As I reflect on 2023, I’m full of gratitude for family and relatives, a priceless group of friends, good health and an entrepreneurial business that is flourishing in our 15th year. We are blessed with second-to-none employees, personable financial advisors, grateful clients, and an ongoing focus of innovation and optimism.
Just last week, our Edwards boards met together for a forward-looking in-depth review of our growth. It was invigorating to hear from many with different perspectives, and our branch development team will be planning to implement fresh ideas. I marvel at the creativity, energy and expertise of our people!
I’m excited to announce our son, Ben V, had his first day at Edwards Monday, November 6, after resigning from Goldman Sachs in NYC. In his three-plus years at Goldman, he held three different roles, along with internships at Goldman and Neuberger Berman during college. It was a world-class experience he can now bring to Edwards. He is proud to be part of our team, starting as a Financial Advisor and becoming our 6th generation. Regarding me, I want to work forever, as I love what I do and am still like a kid looking for chocolate in a candy store. Those who know me, know I’ll find the chocolate!

Our firm continues to grow. We recently opened our 94th location in Collinsville, lL., and have added advisors in half a dozen other branches. We have Edwards locations in 32 states, with 160,000 client accounts and nearly $38 billion in client assets. Just as the windshield of a car is notably larger than the rear-view mirror, we are focused on the future as we add quality people with integrity, character, and talent. We appeal to advisors who want to care for their clients well, value white-glove home office support and appreciate that we are and will remain privately owned. They also value our culture of freedom, fun and wealth-creation. Many want to be owners of our private stock, which is available to accredited advisors.
Thanksgiving is days away with Christmas around the corner. This is my favorite time of year, as I relish seeing family and friends, tossing the football in the front yard, and reading three to four more books before 2023 closes out. On my stack is the new Walter Issacson biography of Elon Musk, along with several others. The holidays are also replete with classic movies, TV mini-series and documentaries. I’m half way through the documentary, It Ain’t Over, the story of Yogi Berra, the beloved NY Yankees legend. So far, superb. Daughter, Hadley, always knows the best ones to watch, and so far, she is batting 1,000%. Stay tuned!
We would love you to bring your family, friends, and work colleagues to visit our Clayton home office. We welcome everyone to tour our Abraham Lincoln-Edwards conference room, Abe Lincoln’s original law firm coat rack from the mid-1800s, a piece from Lincoln’s boyhood home in 1809, a Hall of Fame Sports Collectible conference room, as well as other sports, music, and pop culture collectibles that fill the walls. I am always available for anyone who wants to take a tour, talk or visit.
I am grateful for each one of you, as well as all 700 teammates who work their hearts out for Edwards each day.
