What is an AAMS®? Earning the ACCREDITED ASSET MANAGEMENT SPECIALISTSM, or AAMS®, certification from the College for Financial Planning means that a financial advisor has successfully completed a course of study, passed an exam, and is compliant with a Code of Ethics, which includes agreeing to abide by the Standards of Professional Conduct. In addition, the designation is subject to renewal requirements every two years, which in includes the completion of 16 hours continuing education, and a reaffirmation to the Code of Ethics.

My Background
Born and raised in Northwest Georgia, I started my financial services career in in 2002. Prior to that my professional focus was in business development through sales and marketing.
Drawn by their client-first service approach to financial services, I joined Benjamin F. Edwards & Co. in 2015 as a financial advisor in our Rome, GA, office. In 2021, with the retirement of Bruce Hunter, our long-time partner, Scott Wood and I have continued our partnership under the name Smith & Wood Wealth Management. Along with our associate Marsha Mayben, we look forward to serving our current and future clients in the years to come.
Outside of work, I like to spend time with my wife, Hollye; and our two young daughters, Mary Burke and Harper. I also enjoy barbequing, riding bikes, working out and traveling. In addition, I’m a huge University of Georgia fan.
